Lorenzo Simoni

"Reserve reeds give a full, dark, and versatile sound. Their versatility allows me to adapt easily to many different performance situations—from performing in a small chamber ensemble to performing as a soloist with a full orchestra!"

ABOUT Lorenzo Simoni

Lorenzo Simoni is an Italian saxophonist and composer. He was born in 1998 and began his journey with the saxophone at the age of 11. He graduated with honors in Classical Saxophone from Pietro Mascagni's Conservatory in Livorno and obtained an additional two-year master's degree at the SienaJazz National Academy.

Starting at a young age, Lorenzo began performing as a soloist, playing with small ensembles and orchestras such as the Boccherini Conservatory Orchestra in Lucca and the CAM Orchestra in Empoli. He has won first prize in numerous national and international competitions in both classical and jazz music.

Lorenzo conducts masterclasses in various contexts, such as the International Saxophone Congress in Fermo, Fanano Saxophone Week, Italian Saxophone Academy and the Saxophone Days in Udine. He has collaborated with artists in the classical and jazz worlds including Jason Palmer, Nasheet Waits, Mario Marzi, Greg Burk, Christian Lauba, Giovanni Tommaso, Javier Girotto, and many others. These collaborations offered Lorenzo the opportunity to perform at prestigious festivals, clubs, and events, not only in Italy but also internationally. Among these are the Berklee Performance Center in Boston, Blue Note in Milan, Bimhuis (Amsterdam), Cheltenham Jazz Festival, Chigiana International Festival, and more.

In addition to his frequent role as a sideman, Lorenzo is also the leader of a quartet where he performs his original compositions alongside some of the finest young Italian musicians. With this group, he has been awarded the Marco Tamburini and Tomorrow's Jazz 2022 prizes held at the Teatro La Fenice in Venice. He also performs with pianist Susanna Pagano, interpreting pieces from the classical saxophone repertoire, transcriptions, and original compositions for the instrument in collaboration with local and international composers.
